Speed/Growth (1994) - Garnet Hertz

Duration: 2 minutes
Format: VHS
Original music soundtrack

Appropriated television images are textured and degraded through a process of re-shooting off of a television screen. Fast-paced and highly distorted, this video explores the medium of television as a communication format that is biased to be a better communicator of speed than the concept of growth. This video is influenced by McLuhan's "Understanding Media" (1964) and Jerry Mander's "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television" (1977).
